Two pressure passage holes in the SBX ring cross-section prevent pressure lock when connections are made up underwater. Two options are provided for drilling the pressure passage holes, a A plus tolerance of 0.2 mm (0.008 in) for width A and height H is permitted, provided the variation in width or height of any ring does not exceed 0.1 mm (0.004 in) along its entire circumference.
